1. What is DMX?
DMX (Digital Multiplex Signal) is a powerful lighting control system that can manage up to 512 channels. In simpler terms, each DMX "channel" can control a single color of light. For example, RGB lights require three channels, one each for red, green, and blue. With a DMX controller, you can program the lighting scenes for each channel by assigning a DMX address to each fixture. We can control 170 RGB Lights in a single DMX universe or up to 512 single color lights in one DMX universe. Each RGB light specifically addressed within the 512 universe using a DMX Decoder or Driver, and you program your light scenes according to the DMX address that you assigned to each RGB light.
2. What is address for DMX control fixture?
For RGBW DMX control, each fixture has four addresses, with address 1 controlling red, 2 controlling green, 3 controlling blue, and 4 controlling white. This means you can control up to 128 RGB lights with one DMX universe.
In the case of tunable white lights with a color range of 2200-4000K, there are two addresses; 2200K and 4000K. You can adjust the light color by tuning to the desired address.
3. Do we need to buy DMX512 controller or RDM controller?
We generally have default settings. If you don't need to change the address settings, you can purchase a DMX512 controller from your local market. However, if you plan to change the DMX addresses, you need to purchase a SS-960RDM controller from the manufacturer, which can be customized through corresponding software.
RDM wiring is as following:
4. What else accessories should be purchased?
To prevent signal interference, it's recommended to connect a 0.25W/120Ω terminator at the end of each DMX signal wire of more than 64 devices. (This terminator can be easily purchased from a supplier and will ensure a waterproof and strong signal.)
5. What is DMX terminator & Why Should You Use It?
A DMX terminator is an essential component of the DMX lighting system. When using it, you will be terminating every one of your DMX chains.
DMX terminators prevent the light fixtures from behaving strangely or out of the norm. They’re needed when you notice a light that seems to be out of sync or is constantly flickering or randomly changing patterns.
6. What is default effect of FL39 RGB floodlight?
The default effect of RGBW lighting is that all four colors light up together without flashing, with color changes only visible after setting. Similarly, the default effect for tunable white lights with 2200K and 4000K colors is that they will light up together without flashing.
If you want to change the lighting effect, we recommend purchasing an RDM controller. AGC recommends the following model (insert model number).
7. How to use Signal amplifier/repeater?
To extend the DMX signal range, you can use a signal amplifier/repeater. It's recommended to connect a signal amplifier every 100 meters or every 32 lights. If you're using an RDM controller instead of a DMX512 controller, make sure the signal amplifier is compatible with RDM, and consider placing it in a waterproof box for outdoor projects.
