How to Find the Right Lighting Solution for TV Broadcasting Sports Stadium

In some lighting occasions, especially in sports lighting projects, TLCI will always be mentioned. So what is TLCI?

TLCI means Television Lighting Consistency Index. This is an evaluation parameter created specifically for television broadcasting. We all understand the color rendering index CRI. TLCI and Ra are both an identification value for the true color restoration of an object. But they are different as well. RA is an identification value that focuses on what the human eyes see and the color of the object itself. For large-scale broadcast events, cameras are needed to capture every shot. For camera capture, how to identify and restore the true color value, there is TLCI. The higher the TLCI and CRI, the better the light quality and the more real it is.

Besides the CRI and TLCI, another crucial factor we also have to take into consideration is the strobe. Strobe is the fluctuation of the luminous flux of an electric light source at a certain frequency. For example, if we take a photo of a lamp with a mobile phone, a streak distribution can often be found, which is caused by stroboscopic light. The light source itself does not produce a strobe, the presence or absence of a strobe depends on the LED driver power supply. To determine whether a luminaire is flick free, we can first check what circuit is used for the driver. Usually, PFC+PWM circuit is no strobe. Higher power and efficiency can be achieved.

So can AGC products meet the standard? Of course, the answer is yes.

As long as we use the appropriate LED chips for suitable sports lights, there is no problem to obtain TLCI≥90.

Take Nichia 3030 GRT-V3 as an example: When RA80, TLCI can reach 70; when RA90, TLCI almost meets the standard up to 90.

It can be seen that RA90 LED chips, at different color temperatures, can achieve TLCI ≥ 90.

Make sure the solution with driver Ripple factor<2%, and then no worry about flicker.
