Mixed Flowing Gas Corrosion Testing

Mixed Flowing Gas Corrosion Testing

William Xu

What is mixed-flowing gas?

Mixed flow gas (MFG) testing is an accelerated environmental corrosion aging test that provides contact with harsh chemical pollutants commonly found in the atmosphere, the test specifically evaluates the corrosion of electrical components due to exposure to atmospheric gasses and contaminants. The test simulates real corrosion exposure to environmental conditions in a highly controlled environmental chamber.

Temperature (°c), relative humidity (%RH), the concentration of gaseous pollutants (in parts per billion, ppb, or parts per million ppm level), and other critical variables (such as volume exchange rate and airflow rate) are carefully defined, monitored and controlled to evaluate the product performance under various conditions.

Why do we do this test?

Do you have a particular project environment? Such as special gas, is often difficult to define gas content, and different gases (corrosive substances) cause serious problems. Corrosive elements will accelerate the light decay and shorten the lifespan. In highly corrosive environments, LED lighting with a rated life of 5 years would begin to fail after only one year of use.

Why do we choose LHB09 linear high bay light?

Our LHB09 is an engineering product, which is widely used in some applications such as indoor swimming pools, food, and chemical factory. These applications often involve corrosive gases such as chlorine(CL2), hydrogen sulfide(H2S), sulfur dioxide(SO2), and nitrogen dioxide(NO2).

LHB09 with IP66 waterproof, structural sealing characteristics, and corrosion resistantS materials passed the mixed flowing gas corrosion test comply with IEC 60068-2-60 method 4, the most common test standards are:

  • ASTM B827 - 05(2014) Standard Practice for Conducting Mixed Flowing Gas (MFG) Environmental Tests
  • ASTM B845 - 97(2018) Standard Guide for Mixed Flowing Gas (MFG) Tests for Electrical Contacts
  • IEC 60068-2-60 Method 4
