Sports lighting has strict requirements for the profession and TV broadcasting, usually, we follow the EN12193 Requirements for European lighting projects.
Multi-sport hall is regularly used for many sports activities such as basketball, badminton, and volleyball, as well as social activities. It is therefore important to use the right LED lighting fixtures that ensure visual comfort for players and spectators with uniform lighting of all areas of the structure, increasing the gaming experience and reducing energy costs and maintenance of the fixtures. This article refers to multi-sport hall and case study.
EN12193 Requirements for Multi-sport Hall
The below chart relates to different requirements for different class levels of sports events. The higher the event, the stricter the requirements are.
Sports light will cause shadows on the sports field and players, which will detract from visual clarity for both spectators and television broadcasters. The shadows will also influence the viewing experience. The best way to reduce the shadows is to use multiple light sources from various locations for each area of the sports field. So providing adequate vertical illuminance and uniformity on all planes is needed.
Case study
Last quarter, one Polish client inquired about a replacement project for an internal handball and basketball field, which belongs to a basketball team for TV broadcasting now. And AGC works out a satisfying solution as below by using 84pcs of FL35 sport light.
1) Eav = 1729lx for the whole room including the handball area
2) Eav= 1977lx, and uniformity up to 0.96 for the basketball area
3) 1163 lx for the main camera, uniformity up to 0.94.
4) Horizontal illumination for the two auxiliary cameras is greatly more than the required 750lux, uniformity up to 0.9
5) Vertical illumination for the cameras is satisfying.
It is much better than the competitor’s. And finally, the plan was accepted by my client.
