It is reported that The National Electrical Manufactures Association (NEMA)has issued a new standard for street lighting-"American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment - Luminaire Four-Pin Extension Module and Receptacle—Physical and Electrical Interchangeability and Testing."
The NEMA said the new standard provides mechanical and electronic specifications for the connection of road and area lighting to controllers and sensors. This standard is designed for road and area lighting manufacturers, municipal authorities, and utility companies and will help industries install or remove various sensors on outdoor LED lighting fixtures using the Zhaga Book 18 interface.
The world continues to transform traditional road lamps into LED street lights, not only to save energy, but also as part of the infrastructure construction of smart cities. Interconnected lighting, sensor applications and data collection work together to enable city management organization to better monitor and pay attention to the needs of citizens and homes, and to provide services and functions based on these needs.
Realizing plug-and-play and connectivity of lighting control is a general trend which cannot be blocked and the clear direction of future development.The global lighting control industry has actually begun to move towards consolidation. Some small lighting control companies are gradually being eliminated by the market.
Using the lighting controls made by small companies are often risky.In the event of a failure of the lighting control,it may be impossible to maintain at all. Because the manufacturer may be history.

In current ,there are two great standards worldwide, NEMA and Zhaga.
NEMA standard
NEMA is a north American interface standard . It is a lighting controller installation interface powered by high voltage AC.Most of the techniques are RF Mesh. The terminals in the socket can be connected to dimming mode which can be 0 ~ 10V, PWM or DALI.This standard is also adopted in South America widely.Australia also uses NEMA standard and RF Mesh technology ,but a different point is that the NEMA interface is placed under the housing of led street lights.
Zhaga standard
ZHAGA is a new interface standard proposed by an association of many lighting companies.It is a lighting controller installation interface powered by low voltage DC，compatible with Dali2.0 communication interface.This interface standard is now widely used in Europe .it is likely to be the future European lighting control mainstream standard.In terms of communication technology, LoRa is mainly adopted.
