Why did My Client Need DALI DT8?

Betty Wang

Recently, I’ve got one client inquiry about DALI DT8. Why did he have this requirement?

“We have to integrate the lights into the existing controls. And we also want to control RGBW/TW in 2 groups”. My client said.

I immediately recommended a great solution: Blending Casambi and DALI Systems for Smart Lighting.

The DALI gateway ensures compatibility between wired DALI luminaires and wireless Casambi devices, enabling seamless communication and control within a single lighting installation.

But soon we realized that there was a difficult problem to overcome.

My client told me “I found the problem with the glass panel. The glass panel is between the outdoor luminaires and the CASAMBI signal from inside. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth signal does not go through the glass panel."

I even persuaded my client by means of perfect data: The CASAMBI control system can penetrate 10CM brick walls and cement walls (above report from Finland CASAMBI lab). As a professional user who has also been working with Casambi for 5 years, told me, THERE IS NO SIGNAL!! So this solution is denied.

Finally, both of us agreed to DALI DT8. Compared to traditional DALI, it is a lighting control protocol that offers enhanced functionality and flexibility.  DALI systems for controlling CCT dual-color and RGBW four-color lighting.

At last, what’s DALI DT8 advantages?

1. Dimming and Tunable White Control:

DALI DT8 allows for precise dimming control, enabling smooth and seamless adjustment of light levels. It also supports tunable white control, allowing users to adjust the color temperature of the lights, creating different lighting scenes and enhancing visual comfort.

2. RGB Color Control:

DALI DT8 supports individual control of each color channel (red, green, blue) in RGB fixtures. This enables the creation of dynamic and colorful lighting effects, adding vibrancy and atmosphere to various settings, such as entertainment venues or architectural lighting designs.

3. Extended Addressing:

With DALI DT8, the addressing capability is expanded from the original 64 devices to 256 devices on a single DALI network. This provides greater flexibility in controlling larger lighting installations or more complex lighting configurations.

4. Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings:

DALI DT8 supports energy-saving features such as daylight harvesting and occupancy sensing. The precise control over light levels helps optimize energy consumption and reduce electricity costs.

5. Compatibility and Interoperability:

DALI DT8 is designed to be backward compatible with standard DALI devices, ensuring compatibility with existing DALI installations. It also promotes interoperability between different manufacturers' products, allowing for a wider range of options and easier integration into lighting control systems.

6. Advanced Lighting Scenes and Effects:

With the extended capabilities of DALI DT8, advanced lighting scenes and effects, including color changing, dynamic color sequencing, and pre-set lighting scenes, can be easily programmed and controlled.

Overall, choosing DALI DT8 provides enhanced lighting control options, increased energy efficiency, and compatibility with existing DALI systems. It enables more creative and customized lighting designs while delivering cost savings and improved user experience.
